Search an Orbis Textbase

Once a textbase has been created, you can instantly search all of the files in your textbase and retrieve every entry that matches your search terms. You can search for a single word directly from an open Nota Bene document (see Keyboard shortcut below) or you can open Orbis to search for either a single word or a longer search string.

Popup Orbis (F4) can be used to search an automatic textbase or a user-defined textbase. See Popup Orbis.

To use the main Orbis screen to search a textbase:

1Click Tools, Orbis to open Orbis (or press Ctrl+Shift+F4 or click the Orbis button at the top left of the main Nota Bene screen)
2Open the textbase you wish to search (if it is not already open) by going to the Orbis Gateway (Alt+O) and selecting the textbase. See Open Textbase.
3There are many ways to configure your Orbis screen. The default display is to show the Results Pane at the top and the Entry Pane at the bottom. A Find box will be at the top of the screen.
4Enter a word or a search string in the Find box. Press Enter or click the Go/Start Search button to the right of the Find box.
5The results will be shown in the Results Pane with one line for each retrieved entry. Click on any entry in the Results Pane to see the full entry in the Entry Pane.

Six panes are available to display in the main Orbis screen and each one provides different ways of making your searches more efficient. For more information, see Orbis Screen.
