Search: Case, Accents, Special Characters

Case: The default setting for textbases created with Orbis is to ignore case distinctions: job is retrieved along with Job and JOB. The case (lower/upper) of the text you search for is significant only if you set up case distinction to be maintained in the Textbase properties. You can change this setting on the Keyword tab of the Orbis Properties dialog. Click File, Nexus Options, View/Set Properties to open the Orbis Properties dialog. Click the Keyword tab to change the setting for case. See Properties: Keyword Type.

Single letter words: Oribs does not index single character words. You cannot search for words of one letter or character, such as a or I.

Font changes: Print style or font changes in the text of your document do not affect consistent indexing. You do not need to include print style codes in your search strings, even if the term you want to find is a chemical formula and the print style changes within the word itself. To find H20, search for H20.

Multilingual and special characters: Type multilingual and special characters in the Search String text box just as /ou would type them in a Nota Bene document.  If you have Lingua, type Ctrl+Shift+H to switch to a Hebrew keyboard, Ctrl+Shift+A for Arabic, Ctrl+Shift+G for Greek, Ctrl+Shift+C for Cyrillic and Ctrl+Shift+R to return to the Roman alphabet. These alphabets are only available if you have purchased Lingua.

Accents: By default, accents are ignored in Orbis searches. For example, a search for Zoë would find Zoë or Zoe and a search for Zoe would find Zoe or Zoë. If you would like to have the accents taken into account, this setting can be changed in the Keyword Type tab of the Orbis Properties dialog. See Properties: Keyword Type.

Words with apostrophes: Words with apostrophes are treated as two separate words. To find L'Enfant, search for Enfant. You can change this default setting for treating words with apostrophes as separate terms by editing the keyword separators in the Character Type tab of the Orbis Properties dialog. See Properties: Character Type.
