Omit List |
|
Words in the file used as an Omit List will be ignored as your documents are indexed for the textbase. Omit lists let you index every word in your files except commonly recurring words are unlikely to be useful to you as keywords (e.g., with, by, about, whenever)
Using the Standard Omit List is the default setting when textbases are created, and most Orbis users find no reason to make any changes to this. However, you can control your use of omit lists by editing the standard omit list, or by using no omit list at all (every word is a keyword), or by developing your own omit list.
The omit list can be viewed and modified as follows:
The omit list is in a file called NBORBIS.LST in your Settings folder in your Nota Bene home folder. (If you installed using the legacy installation, this file is in c:\\nbwin\users\default.) You can also modify this list by opening this file directly from within Nota Bene and making any desired changes. The pattern of having one word on each line should be maintained. You should not use Orbis while this file is open.
There is a separate omit list called SEARCH.OMT in the same folder. It is used by both Popup Orbis and Popup Ibidem. Words that you select in a file (by double clicking) that are on that list are not automatically copied into the search box of either popup dialog. If you want to search for those words in either popup dialog, you can paste the term directly into that box.
To create a customized file to use as an omit list:
To reindex your open textbase with a different omit list or with no omit list:
•To reindex your textbase with no omit list, click to uncheck the Omit List box. •To reindex your textbase with a different omit list, choose the omit list from the drop down list.
