Popup Orbis makes the functionality of Orbis available in a small popup screen that can be open while you edit your document. Popup Orbis allows you to search automatic textbases or previously created user-defined textbases. You must use full Orbis to create your own user-defined textbases, but almost all other Orbis functions are available in Popup Orbis.
To use Popup Orbis (F4) to search a textbase:
| 1 | Press F4 or click Tools, Popup Orbis or to open Popup Orbis. If your cursor is on a word when you open popup Orbis, that word will automatically be entered as the search term. |
| 2 | Open the textbase you wish to search (if it is not already open) by selecting it from the dropdown list at the top of the dialog. |
| 3 | Enter a word or a phrase or a search string in the Find box and press the Refresh/Begin Search button. |
•A single word can be entered by double-clicking on the word in the open document. (A single word that is on the omit list will not be entered.)
•A word or phrase can be entered by typing or by copy/paste.
•Click on AND, OR, XOR, or NOT to use these terms in the search string.
•The * wildcard character (at the end of a word) or parentheses can be used in your search string.
| 4 | The results will be shown in the Search Results Pane with one line for each retrieved . Click on any entry in the Results Pane to see the full entry in the Entry Pane at the bottom of the dialog. |
| 5 | With your cursor in the Entry Pane, the following options are available: |
•Click the arrows above the Entry Pane to display additional entries before or after the text that was originally retrieved, or press Alt+PgUp or Alt+PgDn to view the previous/following text.
•Click the insert match button (or press Ctrl+Ins) to insert displayed text in your open file at the position of the cursor.
•Click the open file button (or press Ctrl+O) to open the source file.
Buttons and check boxes at the top of Popup Up Orbis give you options:
| Display options to configure Popup Orbis. There are lots of configuration options for those who want to customize how Popup Orbis works. |
| Auto-update search when switching windows (when checked) |
| Dock (if checked) or float (if not checked). Docking fixes Popup Orbis at the right side of your screen and it is recommended for those who have a standard wide screen. |
| Query Pane button will show a tree-structure count of the matching term. Click the same button again to hide the Query Pane. |
| Keyword button will display the textbase vocabulary including all naturally occurring keywords, words in the synonym file linked to the active textbase, and all special "#" and "@" keywords. See Keywords and Special Keywords. |
