Orbis Screen (Full Orbis)

The main Orbis screen is composed of a Find box and six panes, including two primary panes and four dockable and floatable panes. The Results Pane at the top of the screen, and the Entry Pane at the bottom of the screen are the two primary panes. The dockable and floatable panes are the Search Pane, the Query Pane, the History Pane and the Source Pane.

The search pane can “slide out” as necessary, or be docked. The last three panes (Query, History, and Source) can slide out, be docked in place, or floated. To slide a pane out, move your cursor to the name of the pane on the left or right of the Orbis screen. To dock a pane, click the pin icon at the top right of the pane.

Find box

Search terms consisting of a single word or complex search strings can be typed into the Find box. To implement the search, press Enter or click the green Go/Start Search button to the right of the Find box.

Results Pane

The Results Pane shows the results of your search. One line is displayed for each entry that has been retrieved. Click on an entry in the Search Pane, and the full text of that entry will display in the Entry Pane. The search terms are highlighted. Entries, folders and/or files can be displayed or hidden by clicking the buttons to the right of the Find box. The selected entry can be inserted in your open Nota Bene document at the point of the cursor by clicking the Insert Match button.

Entry Pane

The entry pane shows the full entry that has been retrieved. An entry is the unit of text that Orbis retrieves, usually a paragraph. However, you can set up your Orbis textbase to use sentences, pages, or other blocks of text as the entry to be retrieved. See Entries. Buttons at the bottom left of the Entry Pane can be used to open a viewer to see the whole file, open the file for editing, open/close a text element (e.g. notes, annotations), insert text into an open document, insert link into open document, or show Ibidem source.  A zoom control at the bottom right of the entry pane can increase or decrease the size of the displayed text. At the bottom center of the Orbis screen are two sets of left/right arrows:

The first set shows the number of matches to your search terms that have been found. Click the arrows to move the cursor to the previous or next match.
The second set shows the number of entries (paragraphs) that are shown in the Entry Pane before (first box) and after (second box) the text that was originally retrieved. Click the arrows to display additional entries before or after the text that was originally retrieved. See View Text Before or After Entry.

Search Pane

The search pane provides an expandable Find box with Boolean operator buttons that can be inserted in search string, a vocabulary list of keywords and a search stack that shows terms that have recently been entered as search strings.

Query Tree Pane

The query pane provides a graphical diagram of the search. For search strings of more than one word, a tree showing the each word in the search string will be displayed.

History Pane

The history pane shows previously entered search strings.

Source Pane

The source pane shows the Ibidem record (if any) that is linked to the retrieved text.

The Find Box and panes are also available in Popup Orbis.
