Dialog Bars

Dialog Bars open on the right side of the screen and provide a convenient way of managing certain functions while your document is open on the screen. Once one of these dialog bars is open, a different dialog bar can be opened by using the down arrow at the top of the dialog bar. The available dialog bars are as follows:

Go To  Edit, Go To or Ctrl+G

Extended Clipboard   Edit, Extended Clipboard or Alt+Ins

Annotations  Alt+A

Table of Contents: Marking  Tools, Table of Contents, Mark Contents or Alt+C

Documents  File, Document Dialog Bar or Alt+D

Keyboard Diagrams and Character Inventory  Alt+K

Framework/Outline: Navigate/View  Alt+N

Quick View Alt+Q

Cross References  Insert, Cross References or Alt+R

Utility Bar: Spell and Utility Bar: Actions Alt+U

Index: Marking  Tools, Page Indexess, Advanced Marking or Alt+X

Alt+Z closes the Dialog Bar. If there is an active dialog, Alt+Z first removes that particular dialog, leaving the dialog bar placeholder in place; Alt+Z again remove the dialog bar placeholder.

Alt+J [Jettison/Join] changes the Dialog Bars from docked to floating. Pressing Alt+J again will return to docked.

The docked Dialog Bar works best on screens wider than 1024 pixels. On a 1024-pixel-wide screen, the Dialog Bar and a normal width page (with 1-inch margins) can be displayed side-by-side with the Dialog Bar if the file zoom is set to around 90%, assuming the toolbars (by default on the left edge of the screen, but easily movable) are moved to or  top. Users of screens narrower than 1024 (or who want to retain 100% zoom or larger on 1024-pixel-wide systems) will need to use the Dialog Bar in floating mode — full access to the Dialog Bar features are maintained, and an easy method (Alt+Z) is provided to clear it when you want to return to seeing your document without any overlay.

In addition to the above dialog bars that appear on the right side of your screen, the Framework/Outline Options Bar (Alt+O) and the Layout/Element Map (Alt+Y) appear on the left side of your screen and the Find and Replace dialog (Ctrl+F) appears at the top of your screen.
