Archiva Overview

Archiva is a web-research program that is fully integrated with Ibidem. The basic features of Archiva are included as part of Nota Bene Workstation. Additional features are available in the Archiva+ add on module. Archiva+ is a new module in version 14. It includes some features that were previously available in Archiva Premium or Platinum as well as some brand new features. Those who previously purchased Archiva Premium or Platinum will continue to have access to the features they previously had access to, whether or not they move up to the new Archiva+ program.

Starting with version 14, the two primary features of Archiva are included as part of Nota Bene Workstation:

Library Search: Search Library of Congress and/or hundreds of on-line libraries, retrieve results in Ibidem format, and add them to your Ibidem database.
Capture Web Citations: Capture bibliographic records from on-line databases in Ibidem format. Some sites (e.g., JSTOR, ATLA, Project Muse, EBSCOHost) may require a subscription. Archiva's clipboard watcher monitors text copied to the clipboard and automatically saves bibliographic data in a temporary Ibidem database.

Bibliographic records that have been retrieved by Archiva are saved in a temporary Ibidem database and can be added to your personal Ibidem database. See Add Records and Check for Duplicates.

Archiva+ is an add-on module that adds the following:

Bibliography Converter: Convert formatted bibliographies (e.g. a bibliography at the end of a paper written in any word processor) into Ibidem records.
ISBN Converter: Convert ISBN numbers into full Ibidem records. ISBN numbers can be scanned, typed or copied/pasted.
Retrieve ISBN numbers: From an Ibidem record, search for the ISBN number in on-line sources such as the Library of Congress, and then add the number to the Ibidem record.
Direct Links: From an Ibidem record, go to the corresponding record in Library of Congress, Edelweiss, Google Books, Amazon, WorldCat, or Bookfinder.
Open/Add Web Pages: Manage web favorites directly from Nota Bene or from Ibidem (Tools, Archiva, Open/Add Web Pages or Ctrl+Shift+O). This feature is designed primarily for searching web research sites, but you can use it to go to your University site, Google, your favorite newspaper, or any web site that you'd like to open from within Nota Bene.

If you have purchased Archiva+, your product key will give you access to the Archiva+ features. If you would like to add Archiva+ to your copy of Nota Bene, go to www.notabene.com and log in. When you place your order, you will receive a new product key that gives access to Archiva+. The new product key can be activated by clicking Help, Activate Add-On Modules or by reinstalling.
