Phrase Library |
|
The phrase library feature ("save-get" in XyWrite) allows you to assign a phrase or a block of text to each of 35 different keys. The keys used are the 26 lettered key (a - z) and the 9 numbered keys at the top of your keyboard (1 - 9). The phrase can then be inserted with one simple key combination (Shift+Alt+the letter or number that has been assigned to the phrase). The "phrases" that are assigned can be any block of text, and can include hard returns or other formatting codes. Use phrase libraries for the name of your institution, your return address, a standard paragraph in letter, a standard contract clause or for any text that otherwise would have to be typed repetitively.
Phrase library key assignments are shown on the final tab of the Keyboard Dialog Bar. Press Alt+K to open this dialog bar and Alt+K again to cycle through the available tabs. This tab can remain open on the right side of your screen. It will display the phrase library key assignments, and it can be used to add or change key assignments, or for other phrase library functions.
For many NB users, one phrase library is sufficient, but multiple phrase libraries are available. If you create more than one phrase library, you can assign a phrase library to a file so that the selected phrase library is active whenever you are working on that file. For example, you might want a dissertation phrase library that is used just for your dissertation. If no library is assigned to a particular file, the default library will be used.
key assignments are on the third tab of the Keyboard Dialog bar and can be displayed on the right side of the screen while you work. Individual phrase libraries can now be linked to individual files, making them context specific. When switching between files, the proper library will be automatically loaded. Phrase Library names are no longer limited to 8 characters.
The following keyboard shortcuts are used for phrase libraries:
Alt+F1 Assign defined text to a key Alt+F2 Append or add additional text to a key that has already been assigned. Alt+F3 Open a dialog with a list of assigned phrases and insert a phrase in your document.
