Font Style/Mode (bold, italic, etc.)

The font styles or modes that can be used in Nota Bene are: bold, underline, italics, superscript, subscript, double underline, strike through, and normal.

Font modes can be changed in any of the following ways: (1) the Set Font dialog, (2) the Format, Font menu, (3) the mode buttons on the Format Toolbar, (4) keyboard shortcuts, and (5) MD commands issued on the action line.

When any of these methods are used, MD (mode) commands are inserted in the file and they can be seen and edited or deleted in Codes View.

There are two different ways that these changes can take effect. You can select either of the following by clicking Format, Font, Configure Print Styles.

Change style only for newly typed text: This method used in most Windows programs, and it is the Nota Bene default setting. When you change the style/mode, it affects only text that is typed after you make the change.

Change style of all following text: This method was used in earlier versions of Nota Bene, and it is preferred by some Nota Bene users. When you change the style/mode, it affects all of the following text until another command ends the mode. The keyboard shortcuts and mode buttons are toggles. For example, if you place your cursor at the beginning of a sentence and press Ctrl+B, all of the following text will be bold. If you then place your cursor at the end of the sentence and press Ctrl+B, the bold will be discontinued, so that the sentence is bold, but text after the sentence is not bold.

With either of the above selections, selecting a block of text before issuing a mode command will result in the mode command being applied to the block of text.

If you use the action line to enter a mode command, the command will be entered at the point of insertion and it will change the following text even if you selected the first option in the Configure Print Styles dialog.
