Font Style/Mode: MD commands

Use the MD (mode) command to change the style of text by adding bold, italics, underline, etc. If a block of text has been selected a mode command that is entered on the action line will change the selected block. If a block of text has not been selected, then the command will be in effect from the insertion point forward.

To enter a mode command:

1Select (highlight) the block that you wish to change, or place your cursor at the point where you want the new style to begin.
2Press F9 to access the action line.
3Type MD nn where nn is the mode command for the new style you want to use (see chart below). You can also create relative (or "additive") styles by typing MD +nn to add a style to the style currently in place or MD -nn to subtract a style.  For example, the command MD BO changes text to bold, overriding the type style that was previously in effect. In contrast, the command MD +BO adds bold to the current type style, creating, for example, bold italic if the text at the point of insertion was in italics. The command MD -BO subtracts bold from the current type style. The first seven of the styles below can be additive; you can issue the command with the plus sign to make them additive or without the plus sign to override previous mode commands. All styles except NM (normal) can be removed by issuing the command with the minus sign.

MD BO   bold

MD UL   underline

MD IT   italics

MD SU   superscript

MD SD   subscript

MD UD   double underline

MD ST   strike through

MD BU   bold underline

MD BI   bold italics

MD NM   normal (removes other modes)

4Press F10 to implement the command.

All of the above commands will be shown in Show Codes View enclosed in double angled brackets with no space after the MD (For example, «MDBO» or «MD+BO»). They can be edited or deleted in Show Codes View.
