Font Style/Mode: additive/non-additive |
|
Font styles (bold, italic, underline, etc.) entered via the Set Font dialog or the action line, can be additive or non-additive. The default in the Set Font dialog is additive and this is what you would want in most cases.
Font styles entered via the toolbar buttons or the keyboard shortcuts are always additive.
An additive command combines the command with any previous mode commands, but a non-additive command overrides previous mode commands. For example, if a paragraph is in italics and you want to underline one word in the paragraph, an additive command would make the word underlined and in italics, but a non-additive command would remove the italics and substitute the underlining.
In Show Codes View, an additive command includes a plus sign and a non-additive command does not. You can change a command in Show Codes View by adding or deleting the plus sign.
For example, the following command is an additive bold command as it would be seen in Show Codes View: «MD+BO»
And the following is a non-additive bold command: «MDBO»
