Creating a Footnote: FN command

There are three basic footnote commands. The FN (Footnote) command is used to create the footnote. The FS (Footnote Separator) and FM (Footnote Format) commands are used to format appearance of the footnotes and the footnote separator. Other related commands include the NF (No Footnotes) and the DF (Dump Footnotes) commands (used to create endnotes), the SF (Set Footnote Number) command, the FW (Footnote Wrap Separator) command and the BF (Bottom Footnote) command. The UX code is used by the program to output the note number and format inside the note window in codes view. This code would  normally not be entered or edited by the user.

To create a basic footnote:

1Move the cursor to the point where you want the superscripted reference to appear.
2Press F9 to access the action line.
3Type FN (or FN1)
4Press F10 to implement the command.
5The footnote window will appear at the bottom of your screen. Type the text for your footnote in this window. Then press F3 to close the footnote window and complete the creation of the footnote.

NB:

Once the footnote has been created, it will appear in Page Layout View at the bottom of the page and the superscripted reference number will appear in the text at the insertion point. When you move the cursor over the footnote, the cursor will change shape to indicate the presence of a footnote.
To insert a second footnote repeat the above directions. Nota Bene will automatically number the footnotes and adjust the numbering if new footnotes are inserted or if text which includes a superscripted reference is moved or deleted.
To insert an entirely new series of footnotes, follow the above instructions using the command FN2 or FN3 instead of FN or FN1.
Keyboard shortcut: you can replace steps 2 - 4 above with one key combination: press Ctrl+F10 to open the footnote window.
