The note window (or footnote window) is used to insert and format the text for a footnote. Footnotes (or endnotes) are created by typing text in the footnote window.
The footnote window can be opened as follows:
The text in the footnote window can be formatted in the same way that you would format text in the body of the document. Right-click anywhere in the footnote window to open a menu that contains formatting icons for changing the font, font size, bold, italics, etc.
If the footnote is to contain only a citation, the footnote can be entered directly from Ibidem without opening a footnote window. See Ibidem: Inserting Citations. If the footnote is to contain both text and one or more citations, type the text and then use Ibidem to insert the citation in the footnote. See Combining Text and Citations.
Click the icon at the top of the green bar on the left side of the footnote window to display a note toolbar for cross reference labels and other not options. See Note Toolbar and Cross References.
The note window can be kept open while return to the body of the document to select text or continue editing in the file. Use the button on the note tool bar, or Ctrl+click to return to the body text while leaving the note window open. Once you return to the body text without closing the note, the note window will stay open until you click one of the icons on the note toolbar to close the note window (or press F3 to save changes, or Ctrl+F3 to cancel them).
You can set your default options so that when you press F3 to open a note the note window floats independent of the note, or it opens at the position of the note. See Floating Note Window.
