Reference List/Bibliography |
|
If your document contains citations that have been generated by Ibidem, a reference list will be automatically generated (or updated) at the end of your document. Depending on the settings in your Auto Update Options dialog, the updating will happen automatically at defined times (such as when you add a citation or when you save your file), or only when you manually update your citations.
The process of generating the reference list or bibliography that includes all of the works cited in your paper is as follows:
Setting the reference style: Prior to inserting any citations, you must define the reference style for the document. To define, review or change the reference style for the active document, open Ibidem and click Cite, Set Reference Style. Use the first tab of this dialog to select the database to be used in this document, the second tab to set the style for the citations and the third tab to set the style for the reference list. If you do not want to have a reference list automatically generated, you can clear the Include Reference List check box at the top of the third tab. For more information, see Reference Style for Current Document.
Inserting citations: When you insert citations in the document, Ibidem will automatically keep track of those citations so that a reference list can be generated. See Inserting Citations.
Adding works to bibliography: You can also use add a work that will be included in the reference list or bibliography, but not as a citation in the document. Or you can cite a work in the document but not include it in the reference list. Both of these options are available in the Cite Pane. From Ibidem, click Cite, Cite Options to open the Cite Pane.
Updating dynamic citations: If your reference list is not generated (or updated) automatically, you may need to update your dynamic citations. Click Format, References, Update Dynamic on the Nota Bene menu or press Alt+F7. For more information, see Updating Citations.
A bibliography containing some or all of the records in your bibliographic database can be generated by clicking Generate, Bibliography. For more information, see Generate Bibliography.
