Popup Ibidem provides a small footprint, fast-action version of Ibidem. Open Popup Ibidem by clicking the Popup Ibidem button at the top right of the Nota Bene screen, or by pressing Ctrl+F7, or by clicking Tools, Popup Ibidem. Popup Ibidem allows you to keep a single elegantly designed Ibidem dialog open and visible while you write. Everything you need to cite a work as you write is available.
To see a video demonstration of Popup Ibidem, see www.notabene.com/videos.html
Popup Ibidem can be docked (fixed on the right side of your screen) or floating. Click to check or uncheck the Dock check box at the top right of the dialog. Each section of Popup Ibidem has a green plus or minus sign at the left side. Click the green plus sign to open or expand the section; click the green minus sign to contract the section.
The name of the database is shown at the top of the dialog. This is the database that is active for the file that is open, and it will be used for citations in the open document. Click the button to the right of the name of the database to open the Set Reference Style dialog. This dialog can be used to select the database that is associated with the open file and to select the academic or publishing style to be used for the file's citations and reference list.
The next section is used to search the database. Without expanding this section, the quick search bar provides an easy and quick way to search an Ibidem database to find the records that you want. Enter the text you want to search for and then click the Author button (Alt+1) to search the Author field, the Title button (Alt+2) to search for a title, or the All Fields button (Alt+3) to search all fields for the text you entered. The first drop down list can be used to return to terms that were previously searched. A * wildcard character can be used at the end of a search term (John* will find John, Johns, Johnson, etc.). Click the green plus sign to display an expanded Search Pane. See Searching/Selecting Records.
In the Database section, the records in the full database, or in a selected subset (e.g. the results of a search), are shown. Click on a record to select that record. On the left side of the Database Pane are three buttons that can be used to display all of the records in the database, to display the records that are cited in the document or to display the results of the most recent search. In this section, you can display the Popup Ibidem versions of the following panes:
The next section is used to insert a citation in the open document. Place your cursor in the document where you want to insert a citation. Click on the record in the database pane to select the record to be cited. Click the green plus sign to open the Insert New Cite section. Enter the page number(s) or other locator and click the Cite button to the right. The work will be cited and added to the reference list. For more citation options, click the button on the right. See Insert Citations.
Works cited in the open document are listed in the final Cites in File section of Popup Ibidem.
