Combining Text and Citations

Text and citations can be combined in one footnote or endnote. For example, you may want to create a footnote that says:

For a different point of view, see Robert Knox Denton, The Semai: A Nonviolent People of Malaya, Case Studies in Cultural Anthropology (New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1954).

This is done by opening a footnote window, typing in the text and inserting a citation in the footnote window. Text can be typed before or after the citation. The text that you have written will appear on screen in black and the citation generated by Ibidem will appear in blue and it can be dynamically updated.

1Use the Quick Cite Bar or the Cite Pane to insert the citation.
2Click on the footnote or endnote that has just been created to open the Note Window.
3Type the text for your footnote in this window.
4Press F3 to save and close the footnote window. Or click at the top of the green bar to the left of the footnote window to show the note toolbar. Then click the Save & Close button.

Ibidem will insert the citation in the footnote using the style that you have selected for the document. The citation (shown on screen in blue) will be updated if you update the dynamic citations in the document, but the text that you have written (in black) will not be changed.
