Floating Note Window

The note window can be set so that is always at the position of the note or so that it floats independent of the note.

To check or change this setting, click Tools, Preferences and double-click on Footnotes/Endnotes. In the middle of the Footnote/Endnote options dialog, click to select the "Float Independent of Note" and choose the maximum size of the note window (half page or full page), or click to select "Fixed Panel at Bottom of Document."

The floating window:

Can be dragged anywhere on screen — click on the left green bar, or on any of the edges.
Can be resized automatically (the depth changes as you add or delete text)
When editing at the bottom of the screen, this depth is adjusted so that the note window should always be visible in its entirety (as necessary, this means that the displayed depth of the note will not increase, although you can scroll through the entire note using the scrollbars in the note window)
Can have its depth adjusted manually — click the top or bottom border until the singlue up-arrow resizing mouse icon appears (if using the legacy bottom-of-screen panel, you can click the top border to resize)
Can be set up so that a blank line is always displayed (Tools, Preferences, Footnotes/Endnotes, or by clicking the menu icon on the Note Toolbar that is either on by default, or which can be displayed by pressing Ctrl+F1 when inside the note)

You can control how many lines of a note are shown automatically:

The Footnotes/Endnotes Options dialog (Tools, Preferences, Footnotes/Endnotes) lets you specify the minimum number of lines to show when a long note is opened
If not enough lines of the note are visible, the screen will scroll up to show that number of lines
