The status bar is a bar at the bottom of the screen that gives messages as well as the status of various items. The status bar can be displayed or hidden by clicking View, Status Bar, and then checking or unchecking the Display box. Individual items on the status bar can be displayed or hidden by clicking View, Status Bar, Configure. The items that can be displayed on the status bar are as follows.
Message bar: The message bar will display only when certain features are being used. For example, it is used for microspace adjustments.
Default folder: The folder that is displayed is the default folder for action line commands, so it is only relevant for those who use the action line. The default folder can be changed by clicking Tools, Preferences and double-clicking on Directory/Folder Default (Action Line).
Status line: The status line provides various messages to the user. When the cursor is on an embedded command, the command will be seen on the status line. When certain commands are issued, a message like "Done" or "Copied to Clipboard" will appear on the status line.
Progress bar: The progress bar is displayed only when required for functions that take some time.
On/off indicators: The on/off status of various spelling options, track changes, automatic sentence case (the initial letter of a sentence is automatically capitalized), cap lock and num lock is shown by graying out those features that are off.
Status indicators: The language is displayed. Based on the position of the cursor, the page number, number of lines (or other units) from the top of the page and inches (or other units) from the left margin are displayed. When the cursor is in a table or column, the column number is shown instead of the number of inches from the left margin.
Your own personal message can be added to the status line so that it will appear on the status line whenever there is no other message on the status line. You can also round off the line numbers to the nearest half unit or change the way commands are displayed on the status line. To make any of these changes, click Tools, Preferences and double-click on Screen Display.
