Set Page Numbers Dialog

The Set Page Number dialog is used for changing the starting number (e.g., if you want to start with page 25 instead of page 1), or for changing the characters to be used in numbering page (Roman numerals or letters can be used instead of decimal numbers), or for setting up a file that will be part of a manuscript file (e.g. a chapter in a longer work) to continue numbers from the previous chapter.

To set the page numbers:

1Click Format, Headers and Footers, Set/Reset Page Numbers to open the Set Page Numbers dialog.
2If you have more than one set of headers/footers defined in your document, use the left side of your the dialog to select the set of headers/footers that you would like to change. If you have only one set of headers/footers, you can skip this step.
3On the right side of the dialog, complete the following:
Number Format:  Use the drop down list to select the characters to be used in numbering pages throughout the document. Options are decimal numbers, upper or lower case Roman numerals or upper or lower case letters.
Start At:  Use the slider control to choose the number of the first page.
Type:  Use the drop down list to select Begin Sequential or Continue Sequential. If your document will not be part of a Manuscript file, select Begin Sequential. If it will be part of a Manuscript file, select Continue Sequential and make sure that Start At is set at 1. The Continue Sequential setting will result in numbering beginning with number 1 if the file is printed separately and numbering continuing a sequence from another file if the file is printed as part of a Manuscript File. See Manuscript Files.
4When you have completed your selections, click OK.
