Overview of Links in Ibidem

Each record in your database can include one or more links that can be used to open a note-taking file, an image, a web site, or any file in any program. You will be able to double-click on a link in the record to open a file or on-line source. The following links are available:

Note-Taking Files: The program can generate a Nota Bene file that is designed to be used for taking notes on a particular record. The link will be stored in the Note Link field (field ID = L#) and it can be opened directly from your database. You can return to your note-taking file at any time to continue taking notes. Once you have multiple note-taking files, you can create an Orbis textbase to search all of your note-taking files. See Note-Taking Files. For information about creating a textbase in Orbis to search all of the note-taking files, see New Textbase: Files Linked to Ibidem.

Source Links: Links can be created to either on-line sources (to web pages or on-line PDFs, for example) or to files on your computer (Nota Bene files, Word files, or any other program). On-line links are stored in the On-Line Link field (field ID = @) and local links are stored in the Local Links field (field ID = S>). Multiple links can be placed in each field, each on its own line. See Source Links.

Image Links: Image links are links to a JPG or other image on your computer. The functionality is the same as local source links, but a separate field is provided so you can group images (for example, photos of manuscript pages). Image links are stored in the Image Links field (field ID = I>). See Image Links.

Other Links: A variety of other links can be added to a field that you specify. See Links in Specified Field.

Archiva Links: If Archiva is installed, you will have additional menu options on the Ibidem screen. Click Links, and then the site where you which to look up the record. See Archiva Links.
