Editing Tabs in Codes View

The TS (tab set) command is used in Nota Bene to set tabs.  This command can be issued through the action line, the ruler or the menus.  In any of these cases, the command will be inserted in the document at the point of the cursor and it will remain in effect until another tab command is issued.  If there is no TS command at the top of your document, then the tab default setting will be in effect.  Tab default settings can be changed through the Tools, Preferences menu.

Your document should have not more than one TS command at the top of the document and not more than one TS command at each point where you want to change the tab settings.  Sometimes extraneous TS commands are introduced by issuing too many TS commands.  These commands can be viewed, and edited or removed in Show Codes View.

To change tab settings in Show Codes View:

1Go to Show Codes View using one of the following methods:
Click View and then Codes (return to Page Layout View by clicking View and then Page Layout)
Click Show Codes button at the bottom of the screen -- a pencil in double angled brackets  (return to Page Layout View by clicking the Page Layout View button at the bottom of the screen -- a blue A)
Press Shift+F8 (return to Page Layout View by pressing Shift+F5)
2In Show Codes View, a TS command starts with «TS, continues with a listing of each tab, and ends with ».  Find the TS command that you want to edit using one of the methods listed below.  The following is an example of a typical TS command:
«TS.5IN,1IN,2IN,3IN,4IN,5IN»
In Page Layout View, start at the top of the document and use the down arrow button to move your cursor down through the document.  Look at the ruler and stop moving the cursor when you see the tabs change on the ruler.  Switch to Show Codes View and look for the TS command.
In Show Codes View, search for «TS using Nota Bene's Find function (Ctrl+F).  You can type the opening command bracket in the "Find" box by pressing Ctrl+<.  For more information, see Find and Replace.
3Delete any unwanted TS commands by using the Delete key or the BackSpace key to delete the full command including the opening and closing command brackets.
4Edit any TS command by typing changes directly into the command.  You should not change the beginning «TS or the ending » unless you are deleting the whole command.  After the beginning «TS the tabs are listed in order with a 2 letter abbreviation for the measurement being used, separated by commas.  You can add or delete tabs, making sure that you preserve the pattern of keeping them in order, separated by commas.  You can also change the measurement units by typing in different 2 letter abbreviations (see Measurement units).  If you are using a right, center or decimal tab, an R, C or D will appear after the measurement unit.  For example,  the command shown below would set a standard left tab at 2 centimeters, a centered tab at 8 centimeters and a decimal tab at 15 centimeters.
«TS2CM,8CMC,15CMD»
5New TS commands can be entered in Show Codes View by using the action line or by typing them in directly, using Ctrl+< and Ctrl+> to type the opening and closing command brackets.
