Tabs: TS command

The TS (tab set), TR (tab reset) and TC (tab clear) commands are used to set, reset and clear tabs. Tabs can easily be added, deleted or moved by using the ruler.  See Ruler.

To use the action line to set a location for a tab stop:

1Move the cursor to the beginning of the line in which you want the tab setting to take effect.
2Press F9 to access the action line.
3Type ts followed by a space and then the locations for tab stops, separated by commas with no spaces. A maximum of 21 tab stops are allowed.  For example, to set left tabs at 1.5,  3, and 5 inches, enter the following command:
ts 1.5in,3in,5in
If your default setting is inches, the following command can be used.
ts 1.5,3,5
4Press F10 to implement the command.

In addition to the commonly used left-aligned tab, Nota Bene has right-aligned, centered and decimal tabs. Click NB tabs for details. These tabs are entered by using the TS command as described above, but the letters R (for right), C (for center) or D (for decimal) are added after the tab stop locations. For example, the command below would set a left-aligned tab at 1 inch, a right-aligned tab at 3 inches, a centered tab at 4.5 inches and a decimal tab at 6 inches.

ts 1in,3inr,4.5inc,6ind

To reset the tab stops to their default settings:

1Move the cursor to the point where you want the default tab settings to begin.
2 Press F9 to access the action line.
3Type tr
4Press F10 to implement the command.

To clear all tabs:

1Press F9 to access the action line.
2Type tc
3Press F10 to implement the command.

NB:

Unless you specify the units of measurement, tabs are measured in the default units (inches unless you have changed the defaults).  Other units can be specified.  For example, use the following command to set left tabs at 2, 4 and 6 centimeters. The ruler will continue to be calibrated in inches (unless you change the defaults), but the tabs will be shown at 2, 4 and 6 centimeters from the left margin.
ts 2cm,4cm,6cm
Changes to tab settings will be in effect from the point of insertion (the point where the cursor was when the change was made) to the next place in the document where the tab settings are changed. When you insert a command to change tab settings (using either the menus, the action line or the ruler), it remains in the document and will override changes to tab settings that are made earlier in the document. Unwanted tab settings can be deleted in Show Codes View.
All commands can be entered in either lower or upper case.
