Insert Date and Time

Nota Bene can insert the current date and/or time into your text. The date and/or time can be auto-adjusting (automatically updated whenever the document is opened, edited or printed) or a fixed (permanent text, never updated). If you insert a fixed date or time, plain text is inserted in your document. If you insert an auto-adjusting date or time, a DA or TM command is inserted in your document. This command can be seen in Codes View. In Page Layout View, a square around the date or time will indicate that the date or time is being generated by a command in the document. The square is a non-printing marker. You can choose to hide this marker by clicking View, Configure Markers or by clicking the Configure Markers button. In Page Layout View, you cannot move the cursor into the updating date or time.

The date and time will reflect the date and time of your system's internal clock. The formatting of the date and time will reflect the Nota Bene default settings. You have considerable flexibility in choosing the format of the date to be inserted. The time can be inserted in 12 hour (AM/PM) format or 24 hour format. To set the default format for date and time, see Date/Time Default Format.

To insert the date and/or time (fixed or auto-adjusting), click Insert, Date/Time to open the Date and Time dialog. For a more detailed explanation of this dialog, see Date and Time dialog. If you want the date and/or time to be part of a header or footer, the Date and Time dialog must be opened from within a header or footer window. See Headers and Footers.

The action line can also be used to insert date and time (fixed or auto-adjusting). See Date: TODAY and DA commands or Time: NOW, TM and SEC commands.
