Copying or Moving Files |
|
To copy a file, you can either use Windows Explorer to copy or move a file that is not currently open or you can save an open file to a new location using the Save As dialog. To use the Save As dialog see Saving a File. If you are copying a file for use on a different computer, and if that file includes citations that have been generated by Ibidem, then you will have to make sure that the Ibidem database that was used to generate the citations is accessible to the new computer. See Sharing a File.
To use Windows Explorer to copy a file:
To use File Explorer to move a file (i.e., to delete it from its old location and move it to a new location), follow the above instructions, but substitute Ctrl+X for Ctrl+C in step 3.
To copy two or more files at the same time, use the Ctrl or Shift button to highlight more than one file in step 2 as follows:
The same procedure can be used to copy or move a folder instead of a file. In step 2, click on the folder to highlight it.
To move a file (or files or a folder), use Ctrl+X in step 3 instead of Ctrl+C. This will delete the selected files (or folders) from the original location and copy them to the clipboard so that they can be pasted in the new location in step 5.
File Explorer is a Windows program and it contains its own on-line help. For more information on using File Explorer to copy files and folders, click Help, Help Topics on the Explorer menu. Then click the Index tab and type in "copying files" to search for this topic. When the topic you want to see is highlighted, click Display.
The action line can also be used to copy or move files. See COPY command.
