Backup Database (create an .NBB file)

The Ibidem menu (File, Backup Database) can be used to create an .NBB file. The .NBB file is a single compressed file that contains all of the files that make up your Ibidem database. This .NBB file must then be saved to one or more backup locations.

To use File, Backup Database to create a backup copy of an Ibidem database:

1Open the Ibidem database that you want to backup.
2Click File, Backup Database. The Ibidem Backup Database dialog will open.
3Choose a location and filename for the backup copy of your database. A default name and location will be filled in automatically, but these can be changed by typing in new information or by clicking the Browse button to the right of the "Backup to Archive File" box. Make sure that you remember where your backup copy is being saved.
4The data (information contained in the records of your database) will always be backed up. In addition, the following will be backed up if there is a check mark in the corresponding box.
Management Files (Index and Subset) If you do not backup management files, they will be rebuilt when you restore the database. However, any information about subsets that you have created would be lost if you do not back up the management files.
Linked Note-Taking Files.
Other Linked Files
5Click OK

A single .NBB file is created containing the elements you selected for backup. The file will have the .NBB extension. You should copy this file to another computer or safe backup location so that a copy of your database is preserved even if your hard drive is destroyed or your computer is lost or stolen. If you use a backup service to regularly backup your files, make sure that it is backing up your .NBB files. The backup service will not create the .NBB file, so you need to create an updated .NBB file each time you make any changes to your Ibidem database.

Note that linked note-taking files can be included in the .NBB file only if you use the default name and location for your note-taking files. See Notes on Backing Up Note-Taking Files.

If you have more than one Ibidem (or IbidPlus) database, repeat the process for each database.

To use the .NBB file to move the database to a new computer or to overwrite your existing database with your backup copy, see Restore Database.

An alternative way of backing up your database is to copy database files to a backup location.
