File Preparation Options (Orbis) |
|
In general, your files need no special preparation. Orbis treats every word as a keyword (except for words on the omit list), so you do not need to define keywords. All you need is Nota Bene files that are stored on your computer. If you have purchased Orbis+, you will be able to search PDF, DOC, DOCX, RTF and/or HTML files as well as NB files and TXT files.
If you have not purchased Orbis+ and you have non-Nota Bene files that you would like to search, you should convert them to Nota Bene and save them as Nota Bene files before proceeding. See Batch Conversion.
If you are just starting to use Orbis, you can search one of the automatic textbases in Popup Orbis. Experienced users may want to define their own new textbase.
Advanced users may want to prepare their Nota Bene files in one of the following ways:
Add Special Keywords: Orbis usually treats every word as a keyword (except those on a user-modifiable omit list). However, special keywords can be added to your documents to expand your search capabilities.
Add Entry Markers: Most Orbis textbases use paragraphs or sentences as entries. These are examples of unmarked entries which do not require any additional editing of source text files. If you prefer to use marked entries, entry start and stop markers must be added to the source files.
