Batch Conversion

Files can be converted to NB Windows format from the DOS version Nota Bene and/or from other word processing formats. Single files can be converted using the File Open or the Save As dialogs. See Convert to Nota Bene or Convert from Nota Bene to Other Formats.

The Batch Conversion feature can be used to convert a group (or batch) of files from NB DOS or from Microsoft Word or WordPerfect or RTF (Rich Text Format). Microsoft Word files (or WordPerfect files) can be converted only if Microsoft Word (or WordPerfect) is installed on your computer. The Batch Conversion can convert all of the files in a selected folder or only the files that you select. If you want to convert files in that are in more than one folder, you need to run the Batch Conversion once for each folder.

When files are converted, they are retained in both the old format and the new format. Dialog boxes guide you through the process of choosing a folder for the new files and then selecting the files to be converted. The converted files will be saved using the same name unless they are to be saved in the same folder as the original files. In this case the extension will be changed and you will be notified of the change.

Before the development of Orbis+, NB users used the batch conversion to convert their Word files to Nota Bene format so that they could use Orbis to search those files. Now Orbis+ (an add-on module) can be used to search DOC, DOCX, RTF, PDF and HTML files. So many find that they do not need to convert old files to Nota Bene format. see Orbis+
