Entry Start and Stop Markers

Most Orbis textbases use unmarked entries which do not require any additional editing of source text files. If you would prefer to manually define the beginning and ending of each entry, you can use the New Textbase: Custom Format to set up your textbase to use marked entries.  In this case, you will need to insert entry start and stop markers in each file that you want to include in the textbase. This feature is for use with Nota Bene files only.

There are two types of entry start and stop markers:

Non-printing Markers

Non-printing markers are used to delineate areas of text or individual keywords to be indexed in text files.  Non-printing markers must be inserted in pairs (before and after the area or word to be indexed). These markers will not print but are visible on screen as a light blue globe with a yellow ribbon. The insertion keys for non-printing markers are on the "9" and "0" keys to correspond with the beginning and end parentheses in the shift portion of these keys. To insert non-printing markers:

1Move cursor to beginning insertion point.
2Press F5 then press 9
3At the end of the entry, press F5 then press 0

Printing Markers

Printing markers perform the same function as their non-printing counterparts but are visible on screen and in printed text. You will see a square followed by the letter B (begin) or E (end). The ending marker includes a leading carriage return so that it will automatically appear on the following line. To insert a printing marker:

1Move cursor to beginning insertion point.
2Press F5 then press Shift+9
3After the entry, press F5 then press Shift+0
