Search Biblical Texts

Nota Bene biblical textbases use verses as entries. You can search a biblical textbase for any word or search string as you would search any Orbis textbase.  Unlike other textbases, you can also search the biblical texts for a specified verse or series of verses. Finally, you can search for a word or search string and limit that search to a specified book or a series of verses within the book.

If you are searching Hebrew, Greek or Latin texts, or other terms, you must use vowels, breathing marks, diacritical marks as they are found in the text.

Before you can search the textbase, it must be indexed. See New Textbase: Biblical Texts.

To search the entire text for a word or any search string:

The process is exactly the same as for any Orbis textbase. See Search Textbase.

To search one book or a portion of the text:

1Open Orbis (from the main Nota Bene screen, click Tools, Orbis)
2Open the biblical textbase you want to search by clicking File, and selecting the textbase from the 9 most recently opened textbases (or open the Orbis Gateway for a full list of all of the textbases that can be opened). If the textbase does not appear on the Orbis Gateway,  then it has not been indexed. Make sure that you have purchased, installed and indexed the biblical text that you want to use. See Nota Bene Biblical Texts.)
3Click Discover, Search Biblical Texts or click the Biblical Texts Options button to the left of the Find box. The Orbis Book Search dialog will open.
4Use the controls in the Orbis Book Search dialog to select the portion of the text that you wish to search and to enter the search terms.
6Click OK. The search parameters that you have selected will be entered in the Find box on the Orbis screen.
7Press Enter or click the Go/Start Search button to the right of the Find box. The results will be shown in the Results Pane with one line for each retrieved entry. Click on any entry in the Results Pane to see the full entry in the Entry Pane.
