Page Break

To insert a hard page break, place your cursor where you want the page to break and press Ctrl+Enter. Nota Bene will display a non-printing marker in Page Layout View showing the position of the page break (a blue pentagon with an X in it). Any text entered after the hard page break will display and print on the same page until the text wraps to the next line. It will then begin a new page. If you do not want the text to continue on the same line, but to begin a new page immediately, press Enter after inserting the hard page break.

Conditional page breaks (or unconditional page breaks) can be inserted as follows:

1Click Insert, Breaks
2The Breaks dialog box will appear. Click on the Pages tab.
3Click the Insert Page Break box and select one of the following:
Unconditional page break: This has the same effect as pressing Ctrl+Enter as described above.
Conditional page break: The page will break only if it consists of at least the specified number of lines at the point of the page break command.  Use the slider control to change the number of lines. You may use a different unit of measurement by typing in the slider control box the amount of space required to break the page with a 2 letter abbreviation (e.g. 6 IN). See Units of Measurement. If the condition is not met, the command will be ignored.
Forced break to make the next page odd-numbered: The page will break only if the command appears on an even numbered page. Otherwise, the command will be ignored.
Forced break to make the next page even-numbered: The page will break only if the command appears on an odd numbered page. Otherwise, the command will be ignored.
4Click the top margin box if you want to suppress any blank lines at the top of the page.
5Click OK

Page breaks can be deleted in Page Layout view (the standard default view) or in Show Codes view:

Page Layout view: Position the cursor on the page-break symbol. When the cursor is correctly positioned, the status line will say “Start New Page [PG]”). Press Delete. If you see a small vertical gray line in the middle of the line with the page-break symbol at the end of the line, the vertical gray line shows where the PG command is entered, and the page-break symbol at the end of the line shows where the page will break (i.e., at the end of the line). In this case, you should place your cursor on the small vertical gray line, not on the page-break symbol.)
Show codes view: Page break commands are shown in Show Codes View as an opening command bracket followed by PG followed by a closing command bracket: «PG» Occasionally there may be modifiers that are part of the PG command: «PG40LI» To remove a page break, go to Show Codes View (press View, Codes). Place your cursor on or before the command and press Ctrl and the +/= key at the top of the keyboard. This will select the entire PG command including opening and closing brackets. Press Delete to delete the command.

The action line can be used to insert a page break. See PG command.

Page break markers can be displayed or hidden. For more information, see Markers.
