Page Break: PG command

The PG command is used to insert a hard page break as follows:

1Press F9 to access the action line.
2Type PG
3Press F10 to insert the hard page break.

Nota Bene will display a non-printing marker in Page Layout View showing the position of the page break. Any text entered after the hard page break will display and print on the same page until the text wraps to the next line. It will then begin a new page. If you do not want the text to continue on the same line, but to begin a new page immediately, press Enter after inserting the hard page break.

Conditional page breaks will break the page only under certain conditions. If the condition is not met, the page break command is ignored. To insert a conditional page break, substitute one of the following commands for PG in step 2 above:

Type PG 40 to break the page only if the page consists of at least 40 lines at the point of the page break command. You may substitute any number of lines or you may use a different unit of measurement by specifying its 2 letter abbreviation (e.g. PG 6IN to break the page only if the page consists of at least 6 inches). If you have changed the default units of measurement, you must use the new default units, or include a 2 letter abbreviation (see Units of Measurement).
Type PG E to break the page only if the page is an even numbered page.
Type PG O (the letter O, not zero) to break the page only if the page is an odd numbered page.

Page break commands are reflected in Show Codes View in double-angled brackets on gray backgrounds: e.g. «PG» or «PG40LI»  To remove a page break, go to Show Codes View and delete the command including the opening and closing command brackets.

Page break markers in Page Layout view can be displayed or hidden. For more information, see Markers.
