Nota Bene provides you with many kinds of non-printing markers that can be seen in Page Layout view. Markers can be helpful in showing the presence of various embedded commands or in showing characters like a space or tab or in showing the beginning or end of components of a framework or outline. Markers can be turned off if you prefer not to make use of them.
There are four kinds of non-printing markers:
Annotation markers show where non-printing notes or annotations are in the document and are active only if annotations have been inserted in the document. It is not normally a good idea to hide annotations that you have added to a document, but you can do this by clicking View, Show/Hide Markers, Annotation. To display the annotation markers again, click View, Show/Hide Markers, Annotation a second time. For more information on using annotations, see Annotations.
Framework markers are yellow and green brackets that show where framework elements start and stop. For more information, see Framework Markers.
Format markers show the presence of certain formatting commands. A single marker is used for formatting commands and different symbols are used for the following characters: Regular Paragraph, Alternate Paragraph, Tab, Space, Non-Breakable Space, Soft Hyphen and Non-Breakable Hyphen. To show or hide these markers, press the Display Format Markers button on the Document Views toolbar of the main Nota Bene screen, or press Shift+F4 or click View, Show/Hide Markers, Format. When the format markers are displayed, certain codes can be edited as well as seen in Page Layout view. These markers can be configured by clicking Tools, Preferences, Document Views, Set Symbols.
Special command markers: These markers provide enhanced visibility in Page Layout View and in some cases allow you to easily delete or edit the commands without switching to Show Codes View. These markers can be turned on or off by clicking View, Show/Hide Markers, Configure. This opens the View Command Display dialog. This dialog can also be opened by clicking the Configure Markers button on the Document Views toolbar of the main Nota Bene screen or by pressing Shift+F10 or by clicking Tools, Preferences, Document Views, Set Special. Click to check (activate) or uncheck (hide) the markers that are shown.
If you place your cursor on a marker that shows the presence of a command, the command will be noted on the status line, and, if InfoTips are active, a pop-up InfoTip will provide more information.
