Log and Resume

If you are working with multiple files, the log and resume feature is a helpful way of opening a set of files, all at the same time. You can define or "log" a set of files to be opened (for example files that are all part of one project), or you can open all of the files that were open when you last exited from Nota Bene.  The files that were open the last time you exited Nota Bene are logged automatically when you exit the program. When you open the set of files, or "resume," each file will be exactly as you left it, i.e., the same page will be displayed on your screen and your cursor will be at the same position.

To resume, or open a set of files at the same time:

1Click File, Log and Resume
2The File Log and Resume dialog will appear on your screen
3Click to highlight the set of files to be opened
4 Click Resume (or double-click the set of files to be opened).

To log all of your open files before exiting Nota Bene, all you need to do is save the files and then exit Nota Bene. Close files individually before exiting the program only if you do not want the file to be one of the files that is opened when you start your next Nota Bene session.

To log a set of files that you may want to open as a group:

1Open all of the files that you want to include in the group and close any other files.
2 Click File, Log and Resume
3The File Log and Resume dialog will appear on your screen
4Click the Log button
5 You will be prompted to enter a new File Log Name.  This is the name you will use for the set of files that you are defining.
6Click OK. The new set of files will be added to the list of File Log Names that can be resumed.

To add new files to a Resumed Log file:

1With new files open, click File, Log and Resume
2 [CURRENTLY OPEN FILES] is listed and will be highlighted.
3Enter the name of the (resumed) Log file (you’ll see it on the list)
4You will be asked: "The Log file [Name] already exists. Do you want to replace it?”
5 Click OK. Now the existing Log file will contain the additional files.

Do not click on the existing Log file that had been Resumed: actions will take place on that Resumed Log file and will not incorporate the new ones.
