Line Spacing Commands

Nota Bene provides several different commands for different types of line spacing. Which you decide to use depends partly on whether or not Automatic Leading is on. Automatic Leading (pronounced "ledding") adjusts the line spacing so that the line spaces are proportional to the size of the chosen font. The default setting for Automatic leading is on.

To change the setting for Automatic Leading from the action line:

1Place your cursor at the point in the text at which you want the Automatic Leading to be set on or off.
2 Press F9 to access the action line.
3Type one of the following commands:
AL 0 to turn Automatic Leading off.
AL 1 to turn Automatic Leading on.
4Press F10 to implement the command.

When Automatic Leading is off,  the LS (line spacing) command can be used to change the line spacing:

1Place your cursor at the point where you want to change the line spacing. If you want to change the spacing of a block of text, define the block.
2 Press F9 to access the action line.
3Type LS n, where n is the number of spaces between each line. For example, the following command would initiate double spacing.
LS 2
4Press F10 to implement the command.

When Automatic Leading is on or off, the LL (line leading) command can be used to change the line spacing:

1Place your cursor at the point where you want to change the line spacing.  If you want to change the spacing of a block of text, define the block.
2 Press F9 to access the action line.
3Type LL p,l, where p is the number of spaces between each paragraph and l is the amount of extra space between lines of text.
4 Press F10 to implement the command.

When Automatic Leading is on or off and you want to change the spacing for just one line, use the EL (extra leading) command.

1Place your cursor at the beginning of the line after which you want the extra spacing.
2Press F9 to access the action line.
3Type EL n, where n is the number of lines to insert after the current line.
4Press F10 to implement the command.
