The Indentation tab on the Paragraph Setting dialog provides an intuitive way to change the indentation.
| 1 | Click Format, Paragraph. The Paragraph Settings dialog will open. |
| 2 | Click the Indentation tab. |
| 3 | Click the Block radio button. |
| 4 | Use Left (All Lines) slider control under Settings to set the left indentation of all lines |
| • | Click Set to tab check box then Left (All Lines) drop down list to set the indentation to one of the existing tab settings of your document |
| 5 | Use Right (All Lines) slider control under Settings to set the right indentation of all lines |
| • | You may also directly enter a value into the slider window to adjust the Left and Right (All Lines) indentation |
| • | Observe the Preview window for an indication of how adjusting the Left and Right (All Lines) values affects your text |
| 6 | Click Tabs and change the current tab settings, then click OK. For details on editing tab settings, see Tabs. |
| 7 | Click Apply to: field and choose one of the following options |
| • | Insertion Point Forward - settings are applied from the place of cursor to the end of the document |
| • | Paragraph Forward - settings are applied from the current paragraph to the end of the document |
| • | Current Paragraph - settings are applied to the current paragraph only |
| • | Document Default - settings are made the default for the entire document |
| • | Selected Text - settings are applied to the currently block of text |
First Line / Hanging Indentation
The first line can be indented to indicate a new paragraph. This can be done by pressing Tab at the beginning of each paragraph or by using the menus as described below to set the indentation so that each paragraph will automatically start with an indented first line. With hanging indentation, the first line is not indented, but all subsequent lines are indented, usually to the first tab stop. Hanging indentation is used for bulleted lists or numbered lists where a bullet or number is on the first line, then a tab moves the text to the first tab stop and all of the other lines of the paragraph are indented to the first tab stop. To set a hanging indent for one paragraph, place the cursor on the paragraph to be indented and press Ctrl+H Press Ctrl+H again to reverse the hanging indent.
The menus can also be used, and this method provides more options and control:

| • | You may also directly enter a value into the respective slider window to adjust the Left (1st Line), Left (All Others) and Right (All Lines) indentation. |
| • | Observe the Preview window for an indication of how adjusting the preceding values affects your text. |
| 7 | Click Tabs and change the current tab settings, then click OK. For details on editing tab settings, see Tabs. |
| 8 | Click Apply to: field and choose one of the following options. |
