Customizing Auto Replace

Nota Bene's auto replace feature can be customized so that words that you commonly misspell will be automatically corrected.  You must specify a pair of words: the misspelled word that is to be replaced and the corrected word that will be substituted.

To add or delete auto replace/correction pairs:

1Click Proof, Edit User Dictionary.
2The Edit User Dictionary dialog will display with a list of the available user dictionaries. The dictionaries with check marks are active. The one with an asterisk is the primary user dictionary. Unless you have made changes, you will see that "general.spl" is the primary user dictionary (it has an asterisk), it is active (it has a check mark), and it is be highlighted. To edit this dictionary, click Edit Dictionary. To edit a different dictionary, click to highlight the dictionary you want to edit, and then click Edit Dictionary.
3The Edit User Dictionary dialog will display with the name of the user dictionary being edited at the top. Click the Auto Replace/Correction Pairs tab.

To delete, click to highlight the pair of words you wish to remove and then click Delete.

To add a replacement pair, type the misspelled word (or the abbreviation) in the first box at the top of the tab, and type the correctly spelled word (or a phrase) in the second box. Then click Add.

4Click Save to save changes to the dictionary and click Close to close the open dialog.
5Click Proof, Configure and check the following settings on the first tab. For more information about this tab see Configure: Options Tab.

If you wish to have Auto Replace work automatically as you type, either the Auto Replace (Pairs) As You Type box or the Auto Check and Replace (Pairs) As You Type box must be checked.

If you wish to have Auto Replace work automatically when you run the speller by clicking Proof, Spell File/Block, the Auto Replace (Pairs) When Using Proof, Spell box must be checked. If it is not checked, the speller will pause when it comes to replacement pairs so that you can proceed with the replacement or not.

This feature can also be used to assign a long name or phrase to a short letter combination and thus expand a shorthand abbreviation to a full word or phrase. See Auto Expand. Note that this feature cannot be used to automatically correct casing.
