Auto Check & Replace

Auto Check & Replace will check the spelling of words as you type and automatically correct certain commonly misspelled words.  With this feature on, you will hear a beep when you type a word that is not found in one of the dictionaries loaded in memory or when you type a word that is automatically replaced with a word or phrase specified in one of the dictionaries.

Examples:   If you type the word "recieve", you will hear a beep and the word will be changed to "receive."  If you type the word "spall," you will hear a beep because the word is not recognized by the dictionary.  No automatic correction will be made because the dictionary does not contain a substitute word or phrase for "spall."  Suggested corrections for the word "spall" can be obtained by running the spell checker for one word. See Word Check.

Auto Check & Replace can be turned on (or off) in either of the following ways:

Click Proof. If there is no check mark next to Auto Check & Replace, click Auto Check & Replace.  If there is a check mark next to Auto Check & Replace, then Auto Check & Replace is already on.  Press ESC. (If there is a check mark next to Auto Replace Only, then click to turn it off.)

Click Proof, Configure Spell. On the Options tab, click to check the "Auto Check and Replace (Pairs) as you Type" box. (To turn this feature off, click to uncheck the box.)

Any changes that you make using the first method will be reflected in the Spell Configure dialog, and any changes you make using the second method will be shown in the Proof menu.

You can add auto-correct pairs (a misspelled word and the correctly spelled replacement). See Customizing Auto Replace. Auto Replace can also be used to replace an abbreviation with a longer word or phrase. See Auto Expand.

You can select the beep or sound that you hear, and you can specify one sound to indicate a misspelled word that is not being corrected, and a different sound to indicate a word that is being replaced. See Configure Speller: Options Tab.
