Camera-Ready Copy |

Nota Bene is perfect for producing camera-ready copy and many books have been published directly from copy generated by Nota Bene.
If you want to transmit camera-ready copy electronically, Nota Bene files can be converted to PDF format. See Saving a File or Send To.
A new page-composition engine in version 11.5 of Nota Bene (released in June 2016) makes producing camera-ready copy easier and more consistent. Previously, Nota Bene composed files — that is, determined line and page breaks — based on the font metrics (widths) of the currently active printer driver, which meant that page layout could change as you moved to a computer with a different active printer, changed the printer resolution, or selected a PDF printer driver to create a PDF file. But now, Nota Bene composes the file using printer-independent metrics. This ensures that the document will have the same line and page breaks, regardless of where you are working or what printer is available. If you are trying to match the exact line breaks and page breaks created with a previous version of Nota Bene, you can select the old printer-dependent method of composing the page by clicking Tools, Preferences, Page Composition. You will then need to make sure that the printer you previously used is active in the Print dialog and make sure that it is set at the same resolution.
When lines are justified, especially if there is no hyphenation, some lines will have more white space than others. Nota Bene's Assisted Hyphenation feature allows you to see which lines have a lot of white space added. These lines will typically have a long word at the end of the previous line or at the beginning of the next line. You can go through the document and manually hyphenate words that cause lines to have an excess amount of white space added. This will improve the overall appearance of the page. See Assisted Hyphenation.
