Archiva: Recognized Formats

Archiva can convert bibliographic formats on web pages into Ibidem records if Archiva recognizes that format.

Archiva recognizes a variety of different record formats:

Direct-access sites, provided by a single vendor, that allow searching of databases provided only by the data provider. These sites normally have a fixed URL for all users.
Examples: Psycinfo, ALTA Religion Database, ERIC, EconLit, MEDLINE
Service provider sites, which offer a common front end to data provided by multiple vendors (for example, CSA, EBSCO, etc.). These sites often have different URLs, depending on the particular licensing agreement that you have entered which gives you access to that site.
Examples: CSA, EBSCO, OCLC/FirstSearch, WilsonWeb, InfoTrac (Thompson/Gale), JSTOR, ProQuest,, Project Muse
So-called bibliographic export formats, provided as export options--these represent an alternative format in which the records displayed on-line can be viewed, either supplementing the standard view offered by the site, or sometimes even replacing it.
Examples: Endnote format, RefWorks format, RIS format

A particular site may show search results in a wide variety of different formats. Archiva may not support all the different sub formats offered by a supported overall format.

To see a list of which specific formats are selected and notes about each format, open the Capture Options/Formats dialog by clicking Tools, Archiva, Configure Article Capture. The main supported formats will be displayed at the top of the dialog. Click on a format to display notes about the format. If the site supports multiple formats, the second box on the dialog will provide information about which sub formats are supported. This box will also display other relevant notes about the highlighted format. If the format includes multiple databases, the List Databases button will be active. Clicking on this button will take you to a web site with information about the databases supported.

A pop-up message will be displayed if the program recognizes that there is bibliographic information on a page, but either doesn't recognize the format of that information, or cannot extract the data from it. You can disable these message by clicking on the check box at the bottom of the message. You can also disable (or re-enable) the messages by going the Archiva Options dialog.
