Friends of Nota Bene 2024
Thank you for your interest in participating in the Friends of Nota Bene. Since May 2011, committed NB users have participated in seven different Friends programs. The Friends plans have supported the development of new versions of the program and have provided those who join with early access to new versions, participation in the Friends community, and other benefits. Beyond that, their participation has been essential in sustaining the
Nota Bene vision
— indeed, without the support of Friends, Nota Bene, the program, or the community, would not be what it is today.
To join the Friends of Nota Bene 2024, you must be a registered user of Nota Bene 14 and been part of the Nota Bene user community for at least a year.

When you join Friends of Nota Bene 2024 you get the following benefits:
1. Improvements & New Features Added to NB During 2024
Everyone who joins Friends 2024 will have automatic access to new features and improvements as they are added to the program during 2024. These features will be delivered to Friends as part of a special Friends 2024 version of Nota Bene 14. (Those already part of the Friends 2024 program have been using this new "Friends 2024 Version" [shown on the startup screen] since early this year.) This version gives you early access to features that are developed during 2024 for eventual general release as part of next version of Nota Bene. Your Friends 2024 version of Nota Bene 14 will be automatically updated throughout the year with new improvements added. If, as anticipated, version 15 is released in the end of 2024 or in the first quarter of 2025, you will receive an upgrade to that version. If version 15 is delayed, you will be able to continue using your Friends 2024 version of Nota Bene 14 with all of the new improvements that have been added.
We are continuing to make significant enhancements to Nota Bene — not merely to the document-processing component, but also to the complementary/integrated applications Ibidem and Orbis. We’ll be outlining the issues we are working on in the Friends 2024 forum, and those who join will have the opportunity to contribute to discussions regarding priorities and implementation.
2. New Ibidem Features
Enhancements to Ibidem are planned for release later in 2024 currently configured as a new add-on module called Ibidem+, or perhaps as part of Nota Bene 15. These new Ibidem options will extend current Ibidem functionality to include a range of useful new capabilities. A few of these are already including in the Friends 2024 version, including the ability to automatically retrieve and display book covers, as well as an easy way to configure columns to be displayed in the table view, and an easy way to switch between various views. Other useful new options, including the ability to easily look up new and used book prices, and record a history of the changes, are planned, and will be automatically be added as they are completed.
3. Matrix: A New Module for Managing Non-Bibliographic Data
A reimagined IbidPlus, now renamed Matrix, is under development. Matrix simplifies and extends the management of non-bibliographic data (mailing lists, student records, field notes, or anything else). When available, this new module will be included in your Friends 2024 version of NB 14.
4. The Standard-Setting On-Line Research Application, Radius
Radius is a new multi-tasking application that captures virtually any contents on the web — whether for professional purposes or personal interests. Simultaneous with the web clipping action, data of different types is parsed and automatically added to the appropriate Ibidem databases and made instantly accessible for mining by Orbis. The enhanced clipboard and file watcher automatically saves both the text and the URL of any clipped web page with only a click on the available Radius browser extension tab (or by way of the keyboard with Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C). Radius lets you automatically retrieve citations from different sources — citation links embedded in web pages, Zotero records, and more. Web contents without limits can now be captured and preserved (even if the URL disappears), cited, and searched.
Friends 2023 have had access to an advanced beta version of Radius for much of the last year, and they will also receive the final public release, scheduled for first quarter 2024. But Radius at its heart is an on-going project, and Friends 2024 will be able to access all the new and enhanced capabilities scheduled for release over the coming year.
5. Participation in a Special Friends Forum
A Friends Forum for those who join the Friends of Nota Bene 2024 is now active. Subforums have been set up to discuss Radius, Program Development, Marketing, and Zoom Seminars. As with previous Friends forums, you can view and/or participate in active discussion with other Friends, Steve, Anne, and sometimes our programmers. We encourage all Friends to join the Friends 2024 forum and to check regularly for updates.
6. Participation in a Series of Zoom Seminars
Steven Siebert will be leading a series of Zoom seminars for Friends 2024. There will be at least 4 seminars scheduled throughout the year — possibly more if there is an interest. They will cover various aspects of how to make best use of Nota Bene. Topics will include Radius, Orbis, setting up your research and more (suggestions are welcome). Initially, this will be a series just for Friends 2024. However, we will be using our experience with Friends seminars to evaluate possible other uses of Zoom seminars.
7. Have the Option of Participating in Beta Testing
For those who are interested and able to help, we welcome your participation in our beta testing. You can participate as little, or as much, as you want — there is no obligation to do anything.
8. Recognition for Your Support
A list of those who have contributed will be included under an option off of the Help menu of Nota Bene Workstation. If you would prefer to remain anonymous, you will be able to indicate this preference when making your contribution.
9. Savings for Students and Colleagues
Your students, colleagues, and friends will be entitled to purchase new copies of Nota Bene at a 30% discount. Discounts will be applied to our regular price or student price of the Nota Bene Workstation and to the regular prices of the Lingua, Orbis+, Archiva+, and Radius add-on modules. Please write to

10. A Free Copy of Nota Bene 14 for a Colleague or Friend
Those who join at the premium ($500) level are entitled to an extra benefit — a free copy of Nota Bene 14. Just send an email to

and give us the name, email, and mailing address of the recipient. Also let us know if the recipient needs Mac Compatibility. We will then send download instructions along with a note that the program has been registered in the recipient's name at your request (with a cc to you). The free program will include Mac Compatibility if requested. Other add-on modules will be available at a 30% discount.
11. Reduced Prices for Add-on Modules
Lingua, Orbis+, Archiva+ and Orbis+ are not included in Friends 2024. Most Friends 2024 already have these modules. But for those who have not purchased these modules, we offer them to Friends at a huge discount. Friends 2024 can see the forum for instructions on how to add these modules to your copy of Nota Bene.
