Welcome to Nota Bene |
|
Nota Bene will bring new efficiency to your work by providing tools to organize your bibliographic data, to manage information (notes, papers, random jottings, downloaded text), to format papers for academic publishing and much more. The tools available to you are numerous and some of them are complex. While you can begin using the program at a basic level immediately, your Nota Bene experience will be richer and more rewarding if you take some time to learn about the program before you start using it for your work.
Nota Bene Help: Nota Bene Help provides you with detailed information about the program and how to use it. Conceptual overviews at the beginning of each section are followed by detailed step-by-step instructions. If you are new to Nota Bene, you might want to start by reading the Nota Bene Overview and the overviews at the beginning of each of the sections of NB Help. Detailed step-by-step instructions can be consulted as needed. On-screen Help is opened by clicking Help, Nota Bene Help or by pressing F1 (If pressing F1 does not open Help, see Function Keys.) At the top of the panel on the left side of the screen, there are tabs for Contents, Index, Search or Favorites. Use the Contents tab to browse to different topics. Use the Index tab to search for topics that are in the index, or use the Search tab to search all of the text.
Video Tutorials: Video tutorials that demonstrate the use of Nota Bene for academic research and writing are available on our web site. From the main Nota Bene screen, click Help, Instructional Videos, or you can go directly to www.notabene.com/videos.html. Our thanks to Professor Mark Szuchman for preparing these videos.
Ibidem Tutorial (PDF format): An Ibidem tutorial provides a series of exercises with screen shots to demonstrate how Ibidem can be used to manage bibliographic data, insert citations and generate bibliographies. This tutorial is available on the Help menu of the Nota Bene screen or on our web site. See www.notabene.com/tutorials.html.
Sample Files: Nota Bene files are used to demonstrate many features of the program. From the main Nota Bene screen, click Help, Sample Instructional Files and then select the file you would like to open. Note that these are Nota Bene files, so if you make any changes to the files and save them, your changes will be part of the file. For this reason, we recommend that you close the file without saving. If you have saved your changes and would like to restore the original files, you can do that. See Restore Original Files.
Context-Sensitive Help: Popup Info Tips and Action Tips are available to provide tips and suggestions as you work. These can be disabled or enabled from the Help menu. Field Tips and Field Help in Ibidem describe how data should be entered in each field.
New in the latest version of Nota Bene: If you have just upgraded to version 14, new and improved features are described here: New in Version 14
