Templates

A template is a master form that serves as the basis for future documents. The program comes with several templates, including the academic style templates and templates for fax cover sheets, memos etc. In addition, you can create your own templates. For example, a template could be created with your name and address and a logo and used for your letterhead. Each time you write a letter, you would create a new file based on your letterhead template.

Templates are stored in the Template subfolder in your Nota Bene home folder. If you selected the legacy option when you installed Nota Bene then your template folder is in C:\nbwin\. If you selected the new recommended installation which has a program folder and a separate home folder, your template folder will be in the new home folder, usually c:\users\me\Nota Bene\ (or, on Mac, users\me\Nota Bene\). For more information about where files are stored, see www.notabene.com/setup.html.

Each template has a filename with one of the template extensions: .sm for academic style manuals, .fax for faxes, .mem for memos, .let for letters, .doc for other documents. Each template is represented by an icon that appears on the New Standard Document dialog and is used to open a new file based on a template.

To open a new file based on an existing template, see Creating a New File.

To create a new template to use as the basis of future documents, see Creating a Template.

To use the action line to open a new file based on a template, or to use the action line to create a new template, see NE Command.

If you would like to use a template extension other than those mentioned above, you can define you own template extensions and add a tab for these templates to the New Standard Document dialog. For more information, see Template Extensions.
