Remove Database

An Ibidem database consists of several files, all stored in the same folder. All of the files have the same name, but different extensions. Information about an open database including the name of the database, the location (or folder in which the database files are stored and a list of the database files is available in the Control Nexus.

When a new database is created, two things happen: (1) the database files are created and (2) Ibidem retains the information about where the database is located and adds it to the list of available databases in the Ibidem Gateway from which it can be opened or removed.

To remove the link to the database so that it can no longer be opened:

1Open Ibidem, but make sure that the database that you wish to remove is not open.
2Click File, Ibidem Gateway (or press Alt+I) to open the Ibidem Gateway.
3Click to select the database that you want to remove.
4Click Remove to remove the database.

This will remove the database from the list of available databases, but it will not delete the files themselves. This action can be reversed later by adding the database (see Add Database).

If you want to permanently remove the database from your computer, you must know the location and the filename of the database files. Use Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder to find and delete the database files. The main data file is FILENAME.#00, where FILENAME is the name that was originally selected for the database. You can search for files with the extension .#00. In the same folder, you will see 25 or more other files that have the same file name, but different extensions Delete them all.
