The Add Database function allows the user to put a database into the database list so that it can opened by Ibidem. This function is used if the database files are on your computer (or accessible by your computer), but are not on Ibidem's list of files that can be opened.
If you created a database with Ibidem, it will automatically be listed as one of the databases that can be opened and you will not ordinarily need to add it. Examples of circumstances under which you may need to add a database are:
| • | you have transferred your database from your office computer to your laptop and want to use it on the laptop |
| • | you are accessing a colleague's Ibidem database over a network |
| • | you have uninstalled and reinstalled Nota Bene for some reason |
Before adding the database, you will need to have the database on your computer or accessible to your computer, and you should know the location of the database. The database can be in either of the following formats:
| • | An Ibidem database consists of many files, all with the same user-defined filename, but different extensions, and all in the same folder. The main data file of your database has the extension .#00. |
| • | An .NBB file is a backup of your database that was created from within Ibidem by clicking File, Backup Database. This process saves all of your database files in one .NBB file that can be copied from one computer to another. |
To add a database to the database list:
| 1 | From within Ibidem, click File, Add Database (or click the Add Database button at the bottom of the Ibidem Gateway). The Add Database dialog will open. |
| 2 | On the left side of the dialog, click one of the two Find buttons to indicate whether you are looking for database files (.#00) or an archived backup file (.NBB). The two find buttons are set up so that they will show files of the designated type (.#00 or .NBB) when you browse to folders that contain such files. They do not initiate a search of your computer. |
| 3 | Browse to the folder in which the database is stored (or type the full path directly into the Location of Files field). |
| 4 | If you have entered the correct folder in the Location of Database field, the name of the .#00 file or the name of the .NBB file will appear in the big box in the center of the dialog. Click on the .#00 file or on the .NBB file that represents the database that you would like to add. |
| 5 | Click OK. The database should now be added. |
If you transfer documents from one computer to a second computer, you may need to reselect the database in the Set Reference Style dialog so that the document is properly associated with the database on the new computer. From the main Nota Bene screen, click Format, References, Select Database and select the correct Ibidem database.
