Opening an NB DOS File |
|
In most cases, you can open a Nota Bene DOS file as you would open any file. Make sure that "Auto Detect" is showing in the Formats box of the Open File dialog. The program should recognize the file as an NB DOS file and convert it automatically to NB Windows format. See Opening a File for general instructions on opening a file.
When a Nota Bene DOS file is opened, it will be opened as a new unnamed Nota Bene for Windows file. You must name the new file when you save it. The original NB DOS file is preserved in NB DOS format under the original name. If you have citations in your NB DOS file that were linked to your Ibid./Ibidem database, you will need to convert the NB DOS deltas <X6...> to the corresponding NB Windows GC commands. To do that, open your NB DOS file in the current version of Nota Bene, press F7 to go to Ibidem, and click Tools, Convert, Convert Old Document.
If you are not satisfied with the way the file is opened or if you are opening a Shappirit or Special Language Supplement file, you may need to change the Formats box in the Open File dialog to one of the NB for DOS options that is listed. If you choose Nota Bene for DOS (custom) in the Formats drop down box, you can change the default settings. This will enable you to (1) name the NB for Windows file and automatically rename the DOS file or (2) use DOS default settings instead of Windows default settings as described in the dialog.
A batch conversion utility is available to convert all of the NB DOS files in one folder to NB Windows format at once. This is particularly useful if you would like to use Orbis to search your NB DOS files. See Batch Conversion.
