Formatting of footnotes and endnotes should be consistent for each component file of a manuscript. You can choose to number notes sequentially through the full manuscript, or restart note numbering with each chapter.
To set the note numbering in each component file:
| 1 | Open the component file. |
| 2 | Click Format, Notes, Series 1:Footnotes/Endnotes. The Note Format dialog will open. |
| 3 | At the bottom of the dialog, select an option from the Numbering Sequence dropdown. |
| • | Begin Sequential will start numbering the notes in the chapter from 1 (or the Start At number you specify in the same dialog). |
| • | Continue Sequential will number the notes in the chapter starting with the number after the last number in the preceding chapter. (e.g., if the last note in Chapter 2 is note 40, the first note in Chapter 3 will be 41.) |
| • | Restart On Each Page will reset the note number to 1 on every page of the file. |
Note numbering can also be set within the MST file.
| 1 | Click Format, Document Overview. The Document Structure dialog will open. |
| 3 | Click to highlight the chapter number and make sure that the Format and Number radio button is selected. |
| 4 | Click Edit. The Note Format dialog will open. You can change the Numbering Sequence option as above. |
