Index Generate dialog |
|
Before generating, you can change virtually any aspect of the resulting index. You should read General Notes on Generation before proceeding.
The Index Generate dialog is used to generate an index, or to access dialogs that will allow you to customize the way the index is formatted and/or to define the categories that are included in the index. To open this dialog, click Tools, Page Indexes, Generate.
The Index Generate dialog shows a list of indexes that have been defined. An index definition is the set of rules that govern the format and layout of the index. General Index is the index definition that includes all of NB's default settings. General Index will be listed by default. If you have defined additional indexes, they will also be listed. An index can be deleted from this list by clicking to highlight it and then clicking Delete.
To generate an index, make sure that the index that you want to generate is highlighted. Click Generate. The index will be generated in an untitled Nota Bene file.
To specify a new index definition with different format options and/or categories, click New. To edit the settings for an already existing index definition, click to highlight the index definition and click Edit. Clicking either the New or Edit button will open the Index Configure dialog.
To edit the title of your index (e.g., "Index of Geographical Terms") or add short introduction to your index, click Title/Intro. This will open what looks like a new document. This will allow you to enter the document layout settings that govern the index--running headers and footers, the title of the index, and/or any desired introductory or explanatory text you would like.
