An academic style can be added to a document that did not previously contain one. This process can be followed for a DOCX file that was opened in Nota Bene or for a Nota Bene file that does not have an academic file or framework/outline structure.
| 1 | Insert a new style manual at the top of the file by placing your cursor at the beginning of the document and clicking Format, Style Manual. Click on your needed style, and click Select. |
| 2 | The Add Style Manual/Framework screen with instructions will appear on the upper left corner. Instructions will guide you as to identifying the work's Title, its component heads, and bibliography section. |
| 3 | Continue to set the style and the selected academic style dialog will open. Fill in the needed details, and click OK. |
| 4 | The file will re-open with the entered information, along with the question: "Do you want to add/update paragraph headings now?" Click "Yes" and the Framework/Outline: Navigate/View will be presented showing different heading levels to select from. As the program scrolls from one heading to the next, select the desired head level. |
| 5 | When finished identifying the headings, the location for the bibliography will be identified, along with the word "Bibliography." Note that the contents of the bibliography are not yet available. Those contents are found in the document that has been automatically created by NB and given the same filename as the document along with the following words within parentheses: "(Back Matter)". Open that Back Matter file to copy the material and paste it into the Bibliography section of the document that has been smartly converted. |
If a DOCX file that has been opened in Nota Bene includes Zotero citations, you can add the records to your Ibidem database and simultaneously convert the citations to citations that are linked to your Ibidem database. See Import Zotero Citations.
