Text Symbols (F5)

 

Symbols and certain special characters can be inserted using the F5 key.  

 

1Place the cursor at the point where the special character should be inserted.
2Click Insert, Symbols & Punctuation or press F5, then F1.
3The Text Symbols dialog will appear on your screen displaying characters that can be inserted.
4Click on the character to be inserted.  A square will appear around the character you have selected.  
5Click Insert or double click on the character to be inserted.

If you remember the position of the character on the keyboard diagram, you can insert the character directly by pressing F5 and then the appropriate key. If the diagram shows the character you want to insert on the top half of a key, press Shift while you press the key. The special characters are placed on the keyboard is positions which should be easy to remember.

 

Examples:

To insert ¢ press F5, then c

To insert © press F5, then Shift+c

To insert an unbreakable space (a space that will not break at the end of a line), press F5, then the space bar.
