Search: Phrases

To search for a phrase, type the phrase in the Find box. Phrases can include words on the omit list (e.g. "shades of gray"). However, if a phrase contains one of the Boolean operators (and, or, xor, not) then you must either enclose the phrase in quotes or enter a forward slash before the word that could be used as a Boolean operator.

Examples:

The following two search strings will both yield the same results. All entries that contain the phrase "shades of gray" will be retrieved.

 shades of gray

 "shades of gray"

In the following search string, Orbis will treat the word "and" as a Boolean operator, and this will be a search for two words, not for a phrase. All entries that contain both "black" and "white" will be retrieved.

 black and white

Orbis can also search for phrases (e.g. "black and white"). Either of the following two searches would retrieve all of the entries that contain the phrase "black and white." Note that it is necessary to use either quotation marks (as shown) or the forward slash before "and" so that the program will understand that "and" is part of the phrase, not a Boolean operator.

 "black and white"

 black /and white
